Breton-Style Oak Sideboard Circa 1890

A Breton-style sideboard crafted from oak. The piece is composed of two sections—lower and upper. The lower section takes the form of a chest supported on baluster feet, all resting on a plinth finished with a cornice. The upper section is a hutch supported by carved female figures and crowned with a cornice featuring a pediment and finials. The door panels and the back-panel inserts of the hutch are decorated with low-relief carvings, while the side panels of the cabinet bear relief ornamentation. Noteworthy are the fully in-the-round sculptures of the female figures and the openwork cutouts in the door panels. The drawers are embellished with striking brass fittings.

The piece is in particularly good condition and has undergone only minor cosmetic restoration.
