Biedermeier Secretaire from the 2nd Half of the 19th Century
Originating in Scandinavia, this piece is elegantly simple in form, with gently rounded corners and a smooth top. It consists of two drawers of equal height, a drop-front writing surface, and a narrow drawer above it. The interior is fitted with rows of small pigeonholes and, at its center, a single lockable compartment. Each drawer is adorned with a miniature ivory knob. Decorative detail is pared back to showcase the exquisite grain of the front, achieved through veneering in fine pyramidal mahogany. A double-lock mechanism secures the writing surface, rendering it extremely difficult to open except by those familiar with its operation.
Professionally restored and finished to a high gloss with a traditional polish. This secretaire captivates with its understated simplicity and refined elegance.
