Biedermeier Mahogany Veneer Corner Cabinet, Circa 1870
This piece of furniture is made of softwood veneered with mahogany and dates from around 1870. It is designed for placement in a corner and features a single door with rounded corners, a crowning panel, two drawers, a plinth compartment, and an under-top section. The cabinet’s simple form is enlivened only by two pilasters flanking the door leaf, the concave-convex front of the upper drawer, and a curvilinear cut-out in part of the apron.
After restoration, the cabinet was finished using the traditional technique with shellac polish.
