Hand-Painted Ceramic Tile Panel Depicting a Dutch Maritime Scene,
First Half of the 20th Century
Decorative wall panel composed of twelve hand-painted glazed ceramic tiles depicting a traditional Dutch coastal scene with sailing vessels, fishing boats, and a picturesque shoreline. The composition is executed in a monochromatic sepia-brown palette inspired by 19th-century Dutch marine painting, creating a timeless and elegant decorative piece.
The ceramic panel is mounted within a simple wooden frame, making it suitable for both traditional and contemporary interiors. Each tile has been individually hand-painted under the glaze, showcasing fine brushwork and careful attention to detail. One tile bears the signature "H. Koekkoek", referencing the well-known Dutch tradition of marine painting. The signature is presented as part of the decoration and is not intended as an attribution to a specific member of the Koekkoek family.
The panel is presented in very good vintage condition. The ceramic tiles are free from visible structural damage, while the wooden frame shows only minor signs of age and use consistent with careful ownership.
Materials: Hand-painted glazed ceramic tiles, underglaze decoration, wood.
Origin: Probably the Netherlands.
Period: Second half of the 20th century.
