Chippendale style – style in the English furniture making which originated in the early 18th century. The name of the style derives from the last name of the prominent ébénist, Thomas Chippendale. Itwas the first style in the English furniture making that had taken its name from the creator, not from the ruler. The main future of the style was Eclecticism, which sometimes was referred to as “lack of style”. In his projects, the author combines elements of the contemporary, old and exotic styles. Chippendale was heavily inspired not only by Gothic, but also by Rococo and Chinese art. He combined the borrowed elements in a new, unprecedented way. His style, then, found many followers.
