Dresser in the Commode de Toilete Type
An oaken dresser circa 1920.
A furniture of simple shapes, with four drawers, and a top made of white
Carrara marble.
The drawers of the dresser are between two pilasters in the shape of triglyphs, finished with
diamond-shaped ornamentations.
The heights of the furniture and the top prove the purpose of the dresser,
which is daily care.
The name of this piece of furniture comes from French.
Moreover, it was the French who invented commode de toilette.
Marble top was used to protect furniture against moisture
while washing in a porcelain bowl that was put on the top.
The dresser is after renovation. Unfortunately, the marble has not stand the test of time
and has damaged edges.
