Chippendale Suite, Circa 1930

An interesting suite of furniture that includes a sofa, a round table and two chairs. It is dated circa 1930, its shape resembles the 18th-century Chippendale furniture.

The features typical for the Chippendale style are reflected by the bent legs, finished with spheres in the talons of a bird, and the backrests of the chairs with openwork, flat motif of intertwining ribbons and strips.

The sofa has spring seats. The upholstered parts are filled with sea grass and covered with interesting, green fabric in the tapestry type with a floral motif.

Dimensions:

Couch:  Height: 85 cm; Width: 198 cm; Depth: 85 cm; Seat height: 45 cm.

Chairs: Height: 91 cm; width: 54 cm; Depth: 46 cm; Seat height: 48 cm.

Table: Height: 72 cm; Diameter: 100 cm.

The suite is after a renovation of woodwork. The upholstered parts are covered with the original fabric which, as for its age, is in very good condition.

However, there is a delamination on the middle part of the sofa’s fabric, from the outer side, over a length of approx. 40 cm.

For an extra fee, we can replace the upholstery with a different one.

Chippendale style – style in the English furniture making which originated in the early 18th century. The name of the style derives from the last name of the prominent ébénist, Thomas Chippendale. It was the first style in the English furniture making that had taken its name from the creator, not from the ruler. The main future of the style was Eclecticism, which sometimes was referred to as “lack of style”. In his projects, the author combined elements of the contemporary, old and exotic styles. Chippendale was heavily inspired not only by Gothic, but also by Rococo and Chinese art. He combined the borrowed elements in a new, unprecedented way. His style, then, found many followers.
