Bronze Figurine Signed by E. Picault
We present you this big, full-figure figurine with the depiction of a man standing on a round
base. The man bears a sword at the height of his waist, a book under his arm, and a lantern in his hand.
There is a signature of the artist, E. Picault at the top of the base. On its frame,
a brass plate with the engraved title of the work “Escholier 14th Siecle” can be found, which means
“A 14th-century pupil/student.”
On the other side of the frame, there is a stamped mark with an indication of the material: “Vrai bronze”
(“True bronze”).
Émile Louis Picault (24 August 1833 - 1915) was a French sculptor. He was mostly known for this works depicting various allegoric and patriotic themes, and mythological heroes. Picault was a very prolific artist. During his long career as a sculptor, he created more than 500 models in total. He began exhibiting his works from 1863. He signed most of his works as “E. Picault.”
