18th-Century Graphic Entitled Winter by Antoine Watteau, Engraver Nicolas Larmessin
We present you this graphic made on the basis of a painting entitled Winter by a French painter, Antoine Watteau (1684-1721). The graphic has been made in the technique of etching by Nicolas de Lamessin (1684-1755).
Antoine Watteau – French painter, drafter and engraver. Precursor and leading representative of the French Rococo, creator of a new painting genre called fête galante.
The artwork comes from graphic works by a friend of the painter, Jean de Julienne.
In the years 1726 and 1728, a 4-volume collection of the artist’s prints (the so-called Recueil de Julienne) was published, containing engravings based on paintings and drawings of the painter.
