18th-Century Engraving by Nicolaus de Launay
We present you this engraving entitled A Happy Moment, circa the 2nd half of the 18th century,
by a French engraver, Nicolaaus de Launay that was made to the drawing by Nicolas Larfrensen.
The work is made in the copperplate technique. Some places are colored in bronze. The whole is closed in
passe-partout and a gilded frame.
Presented item is in very good condition.
Nicolas de Launay – French engraver born on September 20, 1739 in Paris, where he died on March 2, 1792. At a young age, he studied in the studio of Louis-Simon Lampereur, where he made great progress. He studied at the Royal Academy of Painting in Copenhagen, then he became the engraver of the king. His works are sought after by connoisseurs.
Nicolas Lafrensen – Swedish painter born on October 30, 1737, died on December 6, 1807. In 1773 he settled in Paris, were for 17 years he was working as an artist under the name Lavreince. He painted mainly miniatures. After the French Revolution, he returned to Sweden. Shortly before his death, he painted a portrait of King Gustav III. His works are exhibited in many museums around the world, including a dozen or so in the Louvre and around fifty in the Nationalmuseum.
